Travel to Auvergne
Day 4 Picherande - Vulcania – Picherande (142 Km.)
(in 71 Km.) Vulcania: We went to this theme park set in the volcanoes. It is not an amusement park, although it has any of them. The park offers interactive experiences, educational films and projection of entertainment for children, inside a building built on a volcanic rock. The artificial volcano built for the park´s operation is divided into four levels, including a volcanic garden, movies and other shows, shops, an information center, a library and a play center. Three quarters of the building were built underground.
On the outside of the building highlights three attractions: a playground and VolcanBul, a glazed electric vehicle equipped with a GPS guidance system. The vehicle advances autonomously by Vulcania environment, while an animator comments details of the natural environment of Vulcania. Finally we find the geyser, a stream twenty meters high, surrounded by a water garden consists of interactive fountains, water tunnels and other fun games where you can refreshing dip in summer.
Vulcania - Tamentit Iron Meteorite
At level 0 of the volcano there are 3 attractions: Terre en colè, a dynamic platform that simulates extreme emotions and sensations experienced during a twister, an earthquake, a flood, the fall of a meteorite or a river of lava. Planète Dévoilée executes a high definition virtual tour with an application like Google Earth to some of the volcanoes and other interesting places on the planet. Finally on this level are the Cité des Enfants (reserve time upon entering), a space dedicated to children of 3-7 years old where they experience with water (the most fun), light, touch, hearing and smell.
Vulcania - Cité des Enfants
At level -1 we started by Mission Toba, where some small spacecraft, and thanks to a 180 degrees screen, lead us to see the eruption of the Toba supervolcano in Indonesia. In Machine Terra many thematic circles use innovative technologies to reveal the origins and secrets of the "blue planet". Magma Explorer is one of the most fun attractions, where a mad commander leads his ship to the magma chamber of a volcano. The attraction that I most liked was Réveil des Géants (The Awakening of Auvergne Giants), an innovative film incorporating 4D dynamic cinema and other special effects in relief.
Vulcania - Fireworks
(in 71 Km.) Picherande:
At level -2 we found a giant screen where two films were showed, the Tunnel des Nuées Ardentes (Pyroclastic flow tunnel), an animated decor which produced a pyroclastic flow causing the destruction of trees (inspiraded in the eruption of Mount St Helens) and Dragon Ride, one of the stars of the park, a dynamic simulator capable of performing 100 movements per second and simulating a 2G acceleration that immerses visitors in an adventure of dragons. The volcano devils is an exhibition in homage to Maurice and Katia Krafft, an extraordinary couple who devoted their lives to the study of volcanoes. The Tamentit Meteorite is metallic meteorite weighing more than a half a ton that fell into the Sahara Desert (Tamentit) a few centuries ago. 4.5 billion years old, is a fragment that broke away from the core of an asteroid that was pulverised during a collision with another rocky celestial body orbiting the sun.
(in 71 Km.) Picherande: After watching the fireworks with which closes some days the visiting of the park of Vulcania, we come back to the gîte.
